Our Story
The employees of ARG have been at the heart of the refinery’s success, enabling the business to overcome its greatest challenges and build a sustainable, thriving enterprise. When Harry Halloran purchased the refinery from Witco in 1997—after it had lost its brand—he observed that it was “twenty times more complex than anything I had seen in all my years in the transmix business.” Yet he also had “a gut sense about the people we met, the town of Bradford, and the need to keep this small refinery alive.”
From this determination to keep the refinery going grew a culture of talented and resourceful individuals, able to work in teams to tackle complex problems with innovative solutions. This human resource has been the true advantage that allowed ARG to transform from a facility on the brink into a thriving company—one that supports its community in ways that go well beyond providing gainful employment.
The Our Legacy Fund was built in 2024 on this realization: that the knowledge, skill, and courage to make tough decisions for the good of the community is an invaluable asset nurtured within the ARG family. Led by a group of volunteer employees, the fund runs a twice-yearly grant cycle to support the organizations at the heart of Bradford’s commitment to the wellbeing of its members. In addition, the Our Legacy Fund fosters a network of these supported organizations, elevating their work through media coverage and convening them in gatherings of like-minded leaders to celebrate their contributions and their shared commitment to making the community better for all.
